One of my favorite artists Jimmy Buffett wrote a song called Come Monday. That song is about being in California wanting to come home to his lover. He says “I’ve spent four lonely days in a brown LA haze and I just want you back by my side” come Monday the US makes it return to Seattle, American soccers lover. After being in California for many games it’s time to go back to Seattle. Come Monday the United States has a chance to go to the last 8.
The US takes on Belgium on Monday, July 6th in Seattle. This will be no easy task. Belgium is the real deal and will be the biggest challenge this team has faced so far. With Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, Jérémy Doku, Youri Tielemans, Nicolas Raskins, and Thibaut Courtois. Some top level ballers from across the world. They have incredible control, experience, and confidence. Courtois is one of the best goalies in the world, one of the best ever dare I say.
(Tyler Adams, Christian Pulisic, Sergino Dest)
Against Senegal they played terrible in the first half. They went down 2-0 and made a miraculous comeback in the final 10 minutes to send it to extra time when they would later win 3-2 in the 127th minute. After scoring no true goals in the first two games of the tournament they have scored 8 goals in two games. They have seemed to put their scoring problems behind them. They are going to look to take complete control over possession against the US. Holding back and making attacking chances on the counter attack. As we saw from their past game it does not matter if they go down early they will fight through and put themselves back into the game.
(Belgium, taking down Senegal)
The US was robbed of their best player when they played Bosnia. On an extremely controversial red card we saw Folarin Balogun exit the game. After that we saw an incredible free kick to give the States a commanding lead of 2-0 lead with little time remaining. Ricardo Pepi will be Baloguns replacement. Speaking for my fellow Americans we do not have much faith in Pepi, but he’s our guy and we got his back. Westin McKinney, Christian Pulisic, Alex Freeman, Tim Ream, Malik Tillman, Anthony Robinson, Tyler Adams, and Sergio Dest will be tasked with huge jobs if the USA wants to win this game. The United States has an entire country behind them. On this July 4th we all look forward to Monday 8PM EST when our boys take the field.
These two teams actually played in a friendly in March. It was a dominant 5-2 win for the Belgium waffles. Neither team We’re close to starting their World Cup roster but they had some big names in the game. The US had six starters on the field, Belgium had 2. Much have changed since that horrible day in March, both teams are completely different.
(Christian Pulisic being delusional)
I can’t stress enough how big of an opportunity this is. We can shake the world up. America! This July fourth weekend we shall prepare! for Monday we take the field to advance to the LAST EIGHT! Belgium get ready Americas comin, freedom will fly. This will be the biggest American soccer game of our lives. I’ve said it once I’ll say it again, BE DELUSIONAL! I’ll end it with the words of Jimmy himself. (RIP)
“Yes it’s been quite a summer
Rent-a-cars and west bound trains
And now your off on vacation
Something you tried to explain
And, darlin,’ since I love you so
That the reason I can’t let you go
Come Monday, I’ll be feeling all right
Come Monday I’ll be holding you tight
I spent four lonely days in a brown LA haze and I just want you back by my side”
Happy 4th everyone!
